Lunch in New York City can be so much fun! How lucky are we to live in such a culinary adventurous city? I can’t imagine living in an environment where you have few options, or mainly fast food options. Yes, you can make your own lunch, but it gets laborious, and not necessarily cheap either. So a bowls it is! There are so many options in the Big Apple, no matter where you live, especially in Manhattan. I went out and tried a bunch of them over the past few months, and here are my favorites….
This Bowl
This Bowl rocks. With three locations in Manhattan, there is likely a spot near you. The food is Asian inspired, which is right up my alley. They have great signature bowls, plus you can mix and match, or make your own. Everything is super fresh, full of flavor, and packed to the rim. My personal favorite here is the OG with Roasted Chicken and Sushi Rice. Two thumbs up.

Fieldtrip
I was at Fieldtrip when they first opened their first location up in Harlem. Chef JJ Johnson’s philosophy that “Rice is Culture” vibes well with me, besides the obvious fact that his bowls are creative, worldly and delicious. Fieldtrip now has several locations, including Rockefeller Center and LaGuardia Airport. My go-to bowl as of late here is the Shrimp Bowl, which is made with Herbed and Marinated Shrimp, Herbed Rice, Uptown Curry and Toasted Coconut. So good.

Bklyn Wild
Bklyn Wild serves bowls that are mostly plant based. Spearheaded by Ivy Stark, one of NYC’s great chefs, and she brings us mid-day flavors that are outside of the box. Forever a carnivore, I love The Beast, which is served with ancient grains, plant-based sausage, avocado and a poached egg, (even the sausage is plant-based, and you would never know). Delicious!

Two Wheels
Two Wheels is located on the Upper Westside, and their food is Vietnamese. Besides their delicious bowls, you can also get some nice, hot Pho here. This place is perfect for this weather! Here I had the Rice Bowl with Chargrilled Pork, pickled daikon and carrots, and a Vietnamese vinaigrette, topped with peanuts. Very, very good.

Summer Salt
Summer Salt brings you food with a Mexican twist. With two locations in Midtown and Flatiron, busy workers have great access to one of their yummy bowls (and various tasty Mexican dishes). Basically any burrito on their menu can be turned into a bowl, and I love it. My favorite is the Baja Fish Bowl with lightly battered crispy white fish, Mexican rice, pinto beans, pico de gallo, Baja sauce and veggies. Totally delicious.
