I have been living in the Bronx for over 25 years, and I absolutely love this borough. Sure, Manhattan is awesome, it’s where I do most of my dining, but if you want a real “neighborhood” feel, the Bronx delivers. I’m lucky enough to live on a tree lined street, not too far from the Bronx Zoo, not too far from Arthur Avenue, kinda far from the city, but it’s fine. It’s fair trade. And the food? Yes!! We have it all. My neck of the woods has plenty of pizza and Italian restaurants, not too far you can get the best latin food, “Little Yemen”, about 15 minutes from me has some awesome Middle Eastern food. Jamaican food, Jewish fare and many, many delis etc.are all not too far. It’s a great borough! Below you will find out about what I eat here, and these places and dishes can stand up to ANY in Manhattan. It’s a little bit specific to where I live, I hope you come around and try some of these goodies.
Louie & Ernies Pizza
Best pizza in the Bronx. Period. Louie & Ernies is located on Crosby Avenue in the Pelham Bay Area, and I don’t care where you live or visit in the Bronx, it’s the best, hands down. They are known for their amazing Italian Sausage Pie, and I love it, but I always get half sausage, half regular. Their “regular” slices taste almost like someone spread butter on top. I can’t explain it, I’m sure it’s some sort of secret, but you must try!
Asrar Paris
Asrar Paris is down the road from me, on Morris Park Avenue, in the part they call Little Yemen. Their pastries are incredibly artistic and delicious. Every single piece of their sugary treats is immaculate. Tiramisu in the shape of a cappuccino cup? Strawberry cake in the shape of a strawberry? Don’t mind if I do. Awesome bakery…
G & R Deli
G & R Deli has already become viral, and lucky for me, it’s within walking distance of my residence. It has gone viral, because of their unwavering quality of their products. Everything is fresh and delicious, and it is served with a good measure of Italian swag. Their sandwiches are huge, their hot food is full of flavor. Right now my favorite sandwich is “The Palermo”, which has Mortadella, Burrata and Pistachio Pesto. Because if Pistachio is on the menu, it’s automatically my favorite. Pistachio rocks.
Grounds Donut House
Who doesn’t like Donuts? I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t. But Grounds Donut House hits different. It’s almost like they’re not “just donuts”. Flavors are creative and out of the box, some of them you can probably not find anywhere else. Great coffee, great breakfast sandwiches, great everything. Find them on East Tremont Avenue in the Throgs Neck area..One of my go-to donuts here is the Churro Cheesecake Donut. Never trust a skinny foodie.
Fresh Tortillas
Is it Mexican? Is it Chinese? Is it a Sushi spot? Actually, it’s all of the above. Sounds sketchy? You bet. But it’s pretty good! I stop by here on the regular to get Sushi Tacos (!). They also have gone viral at this point, because yes, they’re so, so good. And so unique. Choose from Spicy Salmon, Eel & Avocado, Shrimp, Roe, and many others. Super fresh, super yummy. This place is also on Morris Park Avenue, just a few blocks up from G & R Deli.
