I remember one of the biggest news in food was when McDonald’s announced they were serving breakfast all day. We love breakfast. Personally, I could do eggs and sausage any time, anywhere. I grew up in Germany, where at the time, there was not a lot of choice in cereal, so coming to the US was an adventure in a lot of ways, but definitely including American foods. Over the years that got even more elaborate, we are so spoiled. Cereal goes so much further these days! Here are some examples on where and how far we have come…
Oatmeals
This tiny little spot in the West Village delivers big! Absolutely every dish there is based on oatmeal, and there are dozens to choose from. But it doesn’t stop at breakfast meals, there are soooo many choices involving savory, super healthy, dessert-y, whatever your heart desires. Choose your milk, choose your toppings, choose a signature bowl from the categories Hot and Bothered, The Savory, Spice & Everything Nice and The Happy Endings. So far I tried the Physique 57 (banana, cashews, dates, flaked coconut, honey, cinnamon), The Peanut Butter and Banana topped with honey, the Chinese Style Congee Porridge (scallions, sesame oil, soy sauce, poached egg), and my favorite Truffle RisOATto (parmesan, truffle oil, poached egg). Yes, you’re welcome.

Kellogg’s
When you hear the name Kellogg’s, you think of cereal immediately. Of course. Bring that name to New York City, and be prepare to be dazzled. Why not open a restaurant that serves nothing but cereal in every version imaginable? Yes please, and do add an Instagram Station, because these bowls are so colorful and Instagram-worthy. Try the Unicorn (Unicorn cereal, Pop Rocks, Cotton Candy), Tropicalia (Rice Krispies, Kiwi, Pineapple, Mango Jam, Mango Whipped Cream), and What’s Shakin’ Bacon (Frosted Flakes, Maple Bacon, Strawberry Jam, Eggo Waffle Croutons). Yes, it is as amazing as it sounds!

Kith Treats
Kith Treats has two locations in New York, one downtown, and one in Brooklyn. This is definitely a different kind of store, selling sneakers, clothes and ice-cream all at once! There’s always a line outside (definitely because of the ice-cream), but hang on, it’s worth it. On the menu you will find soft serve ice-cream and shakes and a commuter bowl involving breakfast cereals and candies and other goodies. You pick your base, then a combo from the good dozen of flavor combos, and wait to be awed! I tried The Witness (Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cap’n’Crunch, Crushed Oreos, Twix) and The Bam Bam (Rice Krispies Treats, Cookie Crisp, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, KitKat, Crushed Oreo, Marshmallow Charms). It’s crazy delicious, and you will not find anything like it anywhere else!
