Awesome Eats NYC

If you have been following my blog for a while, then you know that I usually categorize my articles by geography or genre. But then sometimes I find food that can’t be boxed in, but I still want to let you know that this or that item is worth trying. So here are a few random items I have come across that should be given a shot. All were awesome, and you would be doing yourself a disservice to skip right by them.

See No Evil Pizza

Located in the 50th Street Subway Station near Broadway, this pizzeria has made quite a splash. See No Evil Pizza has made a name for itself by serving pizzas off the beaten path. Take out, have it delivered, or have a blast at the bar, these pies are super yummy. They are mentioned in the Michelin Guide, so you already know they are packing flavor. My favorite: The Hell Pie: hot soppresata, pepperoni, smoked mozzarella, percorino, and Calabrian chili. So good.

Ring Ding Bar

I do not have much of a sweet tooth, but given the right sweets, I can go to town. It’s hard to surprise me here in NYC, but then I found the Ring Ding Bar. How have a I missed this one? Well, whatever, I found it. Nestled in a bakery on Duane Street in Tribeca, these fabulous bakers have decided to make their own Ring Dings (think about childhood sweets), and packed them with their own flavors. Pistachio, Rainbow, Red Velvet, and on and on and on, one better than the next. It’s total must-try.

Yonah Schimmel’s Knish Bakery

When in NYC, a Knish is obligatory. Never mind the dirty water hot dog. Yonah Schimmel’s has been making Knishes since 1910, so they know a thing or two about that. Of course the traditional Knish is great here, but then there are some with additions or variations. I had the Jalapeño and Mozzarella Knish, and it was all that. Get one.

Superiority Burger

I can’t even tell you how long Superiority Burger has been on my list. It’s been quite a while. Even though I’m a carnivore, I don’ shy away from a good vegetarian meal. This place is fully vegetarian, and it’s a big hit in the East Village. In 2019 it was nominated for a James Beard Award, and has since moved from a takeout spot to a diner size restaurant. I tried the burger, and it was simple and simply delicious.

The Potato Bros

What do you mean, there is a food truck that serves only baked potatoes? That’s a hard yes for me. The Potato Bros food truck can be found right by Cooper Square. Just pick your topping(s), and chow down. I added feta cheese to mine, loved it.
