NYC Sushi

If you’re a New Yorker, you basically need Sushi. Everyone I know loves (or at least likes) Sushi. And for the most part, it’s all pretty good here. But of course I want REALLY good Sushi. I’m not your middle of the road kind of gal, I always look for the best, or at least the best in my opinion. Now, let’s face it, really good sushi is very expensive here in the Big Apple. I can go into the hundreds. I’m not shy when it comes to spending money on food, but I would still like to be able to pay my rent, so I went on the hunt for really good sushi that is not going to break my bank. Here are my three favorite spots…

Sushi 295 Mercer

Nestled in NYU territory, down on Mercer Street, Sushi 295 Mercer is probably the smallest Sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to. A counter with four chairs is all there is, and I’m here for it. I’m usually a big fan of space, but in this case, that little bar seating was all that I needed. The goods here are bundled, rolls start at around 10 dollars. The draw for me here are the dinner sets. Starting at 35 dollars for 8 pieces and a roll, going up to 55 dollars for 18 pieces plus sushi rice. Everything is incredibly fresh and tasty, and it’s literally made right in front of you. Two thumbs up.

Sushi 35 West

You probably already figured it out, Sushi 35 West is located on West 35th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. While researching, I read good things about this place, and it was mentioned that it is mostly a takeout or delivery place, to naturally I ordered out. This place also has lots of great dinner sets. Starting at 37 dollars for an 8 piece set plus a sushi roll, heading up to 70 dollars for a Nigiri Tasting box, you can find something for your wallet size, while eating fresh and delicous goodies.

Sushi Lab – East Village

Obviously this Sushi Lab is located in the East Village on 11th Street. It’s a quiet small place with counter seating and a few tables, it’s a bright, quaint restaurant. A 12 piece Omakaze will run you 69 dollars, 15 pieces are 100 dollars. It’s a little more expensive, but here you will be served each piece one by one, with a little explanation about the piece, which is appreciated. This sushi is also very fresh and delicious here, I adore this place.
