There are a few foods that scream New York. Pizza, Dirty Water Hot Dogs, and yes, Pastrami Sandwiches. I personally absolutely love them. There’s plenty to choose from here, there are so many places that serve really good pastrami. Pretty much almost every deli has it. But beware: not all NYC pastrami is good pastrami. I’ve come acrosss a few sandwiches to left me cold after a few bites. And by a few, I mean one bite. This is a particularly expensive deli sandwich, so wasting your money on something that you don’t really like, is just not acceptable in my opinion. Below I will list five of my favorite pastrami sandwiches, so you don’t have to waste your time and money on food that will leave you wanting for more. These are by all means not the only good ones in the city, they just happen to be my favorite ones. I like my Pastrami with mustard and mayo, which is greatly frowned upon, but a girl likes what she likes. And the sandwiches are not in particular order, they are all great. Happy chomping!
Katz’s Delicatessen
Katz might be the most famous one of all. According to Wikipedia they sell about 15,000. pound of pastrami a week! They have been serving this delicacy for 125 years, and with experience comes greatness. It is made from brisket, cured with salt for about 2 to 4 weeks, and then it gets a spice rub. To finish it off, it gets smoked, and voila! An amazing sandwich was born. Get one.

2nd Avenue Deli
I remember when the 2nd Avenue Deli was located on 10th Street and 2nd Avenue. That’s how long I have been eating their Pastrami Sandwiches, it is that good, After the owner was murdered in 1996, they closed for a while, then relocated in two locations, and are now more popular than ever. This pastrami is dry cured in salt and spices for over a week, and is then smoked. It is spectacular. A must in NYC.

Sarge’s
Sarge’s is located in Murray Hill on the Upper Eastside. I order they’re pastrami frequently, and it’s all that. This Pastrami is actually cured Corned Beef. It is cured with spices, and then smoked like a Texas BBQ. It is supreme, and I recommend it highly!

Pastrami Queen
Pastrami Queen has several locations, and I had my sandwich from the Upper Eastside location. I mean, with a name like this, how can you go wrong? You really can’t. This place has outstanding pastrami. This one is hand-cut, brined, seasoned, dried and smoked. It is then heated and steamed at their store to achieve moisture and tenderness. Mission accomplished. Two thumbs up.

Dickson’s Farmstand
Dickson’s is one of the new additions (and addiction) to my favorite spots. It is located in the Chelsea Market on 9th Avenue. Whenever I’m in the neighborhood, I ALWAYS stop by to buy some meat. Any meat. It’s so fresh, so high in quality. It’s a treat. Their pastrami sandwich is top notch, even though is’t not as loaded with meat as the older delis. But what it “lacks” in volume, it makes up in taste. It is house made, packed with flavor. It is brined, rolled with spices, then smoked and steamed. A pure treat.
