From My Kitchen: Skillet Pasta with Italian Sausage

Well. It can’t get any easier than this. Skillet pastas are designed to be easy breezy, something you serve as a weekday dinner after a long day, or something you whip up for an unexpected guest. From beginning to finish, this dish takes less than an hour to prepare, without sacrificing taste or quality. It’s scrumptious!

What you’ll need

  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 large green bell pepper
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 10 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 pound gemelli (or pasta of your choice)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Prepare pasta according to instructions on the package.

In a medium sauce pan, bring water to a boil. Place sausages inside, boil for about 3 minutes, or just long enough to be able to cut them into slices. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add sausage and pan fry until golden brown.

Add peppers, onions, mushrooms, basil and garlic. Stir well. Cover and cook over low-medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add seasoning and tomato sauce, stir well and simmer for about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add pasta and serve hot.

Bon Appetit!
