Before I learned how to make all kinds of delicious tacos, I used to always make Ground Beef Tacos for my kids when they were still little. They loved them, and honestly so did I. I was so in the mood for them the other day, but I REALLY didn’t want to buy a box with a seasoning package, so I searched, and found, a great recipe! This is for all of you who grew up with tacos from the box, and that are ready to step up their game!
What you’ll need:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1/2 yellow onion, diced
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
- small flour tortillas
- hard shell tacos
- 1 pound shredded Mexican cheese mix
- diced tomatoes
- shredded lettuce
- sour cream
- salsa or taco sauce
This is about as simple as it gets.
Preheat the oven at 325 degrees.
Add the olive oil to a skillet and sauté the onions until soft and fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, and mix well. Add 1/2 cup of hot water, stir and cover. Simmer for 15 minutes on low heat.
Warm the flower tortillas in the oven, wrapped in aluminum foil, for 20 minutes. Serve with all the fixings. Add yellow or white rice on the side to make a larger meal!
