Wings, Wings, Wings!

Poor me sacrificed my time and energy to sample wings all over the city, just to report back to you about where I think you’ll find the best ones. Just kidding, I had a blast, and I had some pretty good stuff to eat. And yes, my favorite ones are listed below, and I will go as far as saying that they are some of the best in NYC. Feel free to follow in my footsteps. (They are in no particular order)

The Red Rooster in Harlem, owned by celerity chef Marcus Samuelsson, always has wings on deck. I never had a bad plate of wings there (he frequently changes the menu), but my favorite are definitely Wild Wild Wings with ginger black pepper sauce, crispy garlic and cilantro. Amazing!

Top Chef contestant Dale Talde owns numerous restaurants, Talde in Brooklyn being one of his first. I love all his food, but his Kung Pao Chicken Wings are top notch. The Food and Wine Magazine voted them best wings in the US, and I second that. Made with peanuts and accompanied by a house made ranch dressing, they are a must try.

Blondies

I have watched many, many baseball and football games at this Upper Westside spot. Blondies has a really solid bar menu, but unquestionably their wings are the star here. These traditional Buffalo Wings are served from plain to ouch, and alternate flavors range from garlic to honey mustard. Whatever is in their recipe, it puts them on the list of best in NYC!

Bar Goto

This tiny bar/restaurant on the Lower Eastside serves Japanese comfort food alongside a nice selection of Sake and other spirits. The standout here are the Miso Wings. They’re cooked up with black sesame, scallions and a house made spicy Miso sauce. Spicy and exotic, they are hands down some of the best I have had! Don’t miss out!

This place has made chicken wings their main focus, and may I say thank you? Located on 1st Avenue by St. Mark’s Place, they are serving them boneless, traditional, Chicken Fingers and more, the heat goes up to Insane, alternative flavors are BBQ (sweet) and BBQ (spicy). I love these things, Delicious.

Dinosaur is tried and true. For years now they have served us their delicious Southern Comfort Food. They are mostly famous for their BBQ-ed meats (obviously), but make no mistake, their Jumbo BBQ Chicken Wings should always be on your table whenever you visit. Spice-rubbed, pit-smoked, grill-finished, they come in numerous flavors and levels of spiciness. Have your napkins ready….

Bonchon

This list would not be complete without some Korean chicken, let’s face it. So here it is: Bonchon’s chicken wings are the bomb dot com. The honest to God best way to order them is Half & Half, meaning half spicy and half soy garlic. Choose pickled radish or coleslaw to go with it, and dive in. Visit at several locations in NYC. Just terrific…..

Author: Gotham Foodie

Hello there, fellow foodies! My name is Erica, I was born and raised in Germany, and moved to the US, New York City to be exact, in July of 1987. I have worked most of my time here in the Big Apple as a bartender, but my true love is food. I cook just about every day, I search for good food everywhere, and pretty much always find it. I don't consider myself a food critic, I don't have the culinary background for that kind of expertise. I do however know good food, good chefs and good restaurants. I report back about my culinary adventures, and I choose to leave out my unsatisfactory experiences. We have enough negativity in our daily lives, I don't want to add to that. All the recipes in my FROM MY KITCHEN and DOTW blogs are cooked and prepared by me. All pictures are taken by me. I don't always eat everything you see in my pictures, but you bet your buns, I do try everything. Last but not least, you should know that I am a huge Top Chef fan. I have never missed an episode of the Bravo TV show. I have at this point visited almost 20 restaurants run by Top Chef contestants, and I'm continuously impressed by their skill, drive and passion. So I will continue to seek them out, and I hope you join me in my journey!
