I love everything tuna. Tuna sandwiches, tuna sushi, and of course cooked tuna steaks. I barely cook tuna myself, other than a tuna sandwich, but when I came across this recipe, it started looking pretty easy. And it was. I made this for a quick healthy weekday dinner, and it totally hit the spot! Fast and healthy, this is a recipe to keep.
What you’ll need:
- 2 – 4 tuna steaks
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp dried red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp Canola oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 scallion stalk, including green parts, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
Combine soy sauce, sugar, red pepper flakes and broth in a medium bowl. Sprinkle the tuna steaks with salt and pepper. Heat the cooking oil in a skillet to medium/high heat. Add the tuna and cook for 3 -4 minutes on each side (more if you like it done medium).
Reduce the heat to low and add the sesame oil to the pan. Stir in the chopped scallions. Cook for 1 minute, then add the soy sauce mix. Bring to a quick boil, then simmer for 2 minutes. Cut the tuna into slices and serve over white rice, brown rice, or sticky rice.
