Midtown Madness

Oh Bobby, Bobby, Bobby.
Bobby Flay, the dapper chef from the TV show “The Iron Chef” has numerous restaurants all over the United States, and it was about time I tried one of them. I have to admit, when a famous chef has that many restaurants, I get worried that the vision may suffer and although the food may be good, it may not be fantastic. I stand corrected. Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain is Top Notch.
I started the night with a French Blonde, a delicious cocktail with orange notes, and the Deviled Eggs with Remoulade and Pickled Shrimp. Holy smokes. It was something to be savored, it was astounding.

My main dish were the Mussels in a Green Chile Broth with Fries Americain that came with an amazing dip. The mussels were nice and plump, the broth was outstanding. I was going to skip the dessert, but I overheard the waitress tell the table next to me about some Green Apple Sorbet, and I just had to. I love, love, love green apple flavors. Of course it was amazing. I had an beautiful evening altogether (all by myself) and I vow that I will never prejudge a restaurant by how many businesses may be connected to it. It was hands down one of the best meals I have had!

Bedford & Co.

If you’re a foodie, you have heard of John Delucie. Having been an influential and groundbreaking chef over the past decade, he was also followed by some mishaps. Luckily I don’t care much about the politics and chit chat, I just want to eat some good food! And I did.
Bedford & Co. is located in a posh hotel, The Renwick right off Park Avenue. It’s a dimly lit comfortable restaurant with candles on each table. I started the night with my beloved oysters, which were fresh and delicious, accompanied by a cool glass of Prosecco. The star of the night was the Bedford Burger.
It’s a burger with caramelized onions, cheddar and pork belly (yes pork belly), that had me sit back for a minute. It’s a classic burger taken to another level. I totally enjoyed every bite of this masterpiece of ground beef. Which is why I don’t care about politics; the food is King in my book. I hope that as a veteran chef John Delucie will eventually open an eatery away from distractions that can just let his food shine, because I am a fan!

Pelham Delight Bakery

Having grown up in Europe, I like my pastries just a smidgeon less sweet than most American yummies. Pelham Delight, in the heart of Pelham Bay, delivers just that, pastries and cookies made 100% the European way. It is a taste of home for me.
For years I ordered my children’s birthday cake from there; it was always a showstopper, always a crowd pleaser. There’s nothing I don’t like in that bakery. And if you love Red Velvet Cake, then this is definitely the place to be. It’s the best I ever had….

I am grateful for another beautiful week in the NYC and the Boogie Down. There’s no other place I’d rather be!Until next time!
