Lunch Prix Fixe NYC

Things are getting a little tough with the economy and all, I’m definitely feeling it. Going out to dinners all the time is getting to be somewhat hazardous to my wallet. But nothing (or least not much) makes me as happy as a good meal at a good restaurant. However, I’m a city girl, and I make it work. Let’s do lunch instead of dinner. I researched high and lo to find some really amazing deals in the city. Prix Fixe lunches are readily available all over New York, so it wasn’t really hard to pick out a few good ones. Here are five places that I loved!

Avra

You gotta love Greek food! Always packed with flavor, always plentiful. Avra has a few locations all over the city, and I picked the Rockefeller Center location, if not for any other reason that they have amazing outdoor seating. Lunch is served daily from 11:30 am to 4 pm. It will run you $38 for three courses. Appetizers range from Salmon Tartare to a Greek Salad, main course includes Pacific Swordfish, Chicken Frites and other delicacies. Have Baklava or Orange Cake for dessert. It’s an outstanding deal.

Arte Café

What an awesome restaurant this is! Nestled a step down on W 73rd Street, Arte Café is cozy, friendly and also has good outside seating. Monday through Friday a 3-course lunch will set you back only $25, which is unheard of. Start off with a Caesar salad, or some Burrata, keep going with yummy stuff like Pollo Piccata or Fettucine Bolognese, and if you have more room, finish with gelato or a Tiramisu. So delicious, so fresh!

Café D’Alsace

You will find Café D’Alsace in Yorkville, 2nd Ave and 88th Street to be precise. The lunch menu changes on a daily basis, and depending on what day you go, you will be served that lunch menu for that particular day. I made sure I went on a Friday, because lunch will consist of Salade Du Bistro. Petite Moules Frite Au Curry (Mussels in Curry Broth), and ice cream or sorbet. So delicous! Lunch is served Monday through Friday, 11:30 am -3:30 pm for an amazing price of $30.

STK

Well. Who doesn’t know STK? It’s a great steak house, and when I saw that my beloved Filet Mignon was on the lunch menu, I was there in a heart beat. They obviously have locations all over the city, and the menus are all pretty similar. The 2 1/2 course lunch menu is priced at $45, and it is actually called the Power Lunch. Have a salad or Tuna Tartare Tacos to start out, then choose from a few steak options, chicken, fish or pasta. Their Filet Mignon is super yummy, and included in the menu. There are sweets to go, or order a dessert additionally from the menu. It is served here from 11 am until 3 pm.

Tao

Tao is another well known restaurant that has many locations all over the US. I visited their uptown location on 58th street, which is sensationally beautiful. There are no specific times listed for their Lunch Prix Fixe, but if you go at a usual lunch hour, you will be able to dine like royalty for $34.95 for three courses (29.95 for 2 courses). Appetizers are Crispy Vegetable Rolls, Caramelized Shrimp and more. Main dishes consist of Kung Pao Chicken, Chili Sambal Salmon or more. Desserts are Banana Pudding, Chocolate Zen Parfait, or Mango Sorbet. Outstanding.
