NYC Soups

I make soups all fall and winter long. I feel that it keeps me healthy. And full. Soups are totally underrated in these days of Uber Eats and fast food chains. I have a long list of recipes that I go through every year, and I do not get tired of them. But then when I run out time here and there, I’ll go buy one, and I’m pretty steadfast on which I places I truly love. Here are some of my favorite places to buy a nice hot soup.

La Grande Boucherie

La Grand Boucherie is awesome to begin with, and it has several locations here in NYC. I’ve never had a bad meal here. They also serve my absolute favorite soup, which is the Bisque De Homard. It’s a Lobster Bisque with sherry cream and chives. It is unbelievably delicious. It’s a hefty $25, but it is worth every single penny. Go get one. You’re welcome.

The Original Soup Man

If you watched Seinfeld (or the reruns now), then you know the Soup Nazi. It was a soup spot, where the owner would refuse service for no good reason to random people. It was hilarious. But it was based on a real soup kitchen on the Upper Westside called the Original Soup Man, and it’s still there. I obviously had to go, and ordered myself a Jambalaya Soup, and it was all that and then some. A must-try.

Sarge’s Delicatessen

Are you even a New Yorker, if you don’t have a Matzo Ball Soup every once in a while? Great Jewish Delis a abundant here in the Big Apple, and my personal favorite is definitely Sarge’s Deli. It’s located on the Upper Eastside in the 30’s, and you absolutely have to have their Matzo Ball Soup. A big one. So good.

Schnipper’s Quality Soups

Schnipper’s Quality Soups is also located on the Upper Eastside, and it is the continuation of Hale & Hearty Soups, which closed a couple of years back. While serving a few yummy bites, their main attraction are the soups. I had Tomato Basil Soup with Rice, and I practically inhaled it. Tomato-y and tangy, the rice filling your tummy, it’s a keeper.

Springbone Kitchen

Springbone Kitchen is a fairly new place, and if you’re in the mood for something a little different, this is your spot. This place has several locations around the city. When I saw that they had a Butternut Squash Soup with Coconut Milk and Yellow Curry, I couldn’t get there fast enough. So delicious. You will find soups and broths here that you won’t find anywhere else. Great stuff.
