Soooo many bakeries in NYC! Are there any bad ones? I find that hard to believe. So many choices, so many great sweet treats! I did a little research, and I found a few that seem to be very popular these days, and instead of buying what I think I would like, I asked for their most popular item, and gave that a try. I have to say that New Yorkers have very good taste, because I really liked everything I tried! Here is what I found:
Librae Bakery
Librae Bakery is nestled in NYU territory down in the village, right by Cooper Square. It’s a large bakery with plenty of seating, lots of students having coffee and sweet treats, It’s very nice. The most popular item here is a Pistachio and Rose Croissant. I was skeptical to be quite honest, but I trusted my self imposed process, and it paid off. This croissant is amazing. I should have bought more than one. It was flaky and buttery, the pistachio cream inside was phenomenal, the rose syrup was a sweet addition, definitely a little masterpiece.

Aux Merveilleux De Fred
Down in the West Village, this is a popular bakery. The giant chandelier that greets you upon entering, seems to promise great things to come, it is very impressive. The most purchased item here at Aux Merveilleux De Fred is a Chocolate Cramique. To be honest, I have never heard of a cramique, I am more of a savory food connoisseur, but I most definitely was going to try. It is a sweet Brioche fun with lots of chocolate chips, just sweet enough for chocolate lovers, but not too sweet either. It’s a perfect balance, and with nice hot cup of coffee, it was an amazing treat.

Angelina Bakery
Angelina Bakery has several locations, I visited the Times Square location on Broadway by 7th Avenue. To me, this spot is exciting, maybe because it’s definitely bustling with tourists and New Yorkers looking for a good snack. Bombolones are the most popular here right now, and the lovely young lady behind the counter told me that the pistachio flavored ones were flying off the shelves. Of course I bought one, and this Italian doughnut filled with pistachio cream, and sprinkled with actual pistachio was super delicious. It’s worth fighting the Times Square cowds!

Unregular Bakery
This well liked bakery is located on 4th Avenue, just below Union Square. Unregular Bakery is actually known for its delicious ham and cheese sandwich, but I went in to see what sweet things they had to offer. Their number one bakery item right now is their Strawberry Cheesecake Bombolone. It is basically donut with a cheesecake filling and a fresh strawberry on top. Spectacular. Go get one.

Les Gateaux De Marie
I would describe Les Gateaux De Marie as a hidden gem. This bakery came recommended to me by a trusted friend, and it’s definitely noteworthy. Small and sweet, this is my type of bakery. It is located on the Upper Eastside. When asked about the most popular item, I was pointed to the Opera cake, which is a coffee flavored chocolate cake made from Almond flour with French espresso, Italian butter cream and a chocolate ganache. I devoured a slice of it, it was decadent, delicious and luxurious.
