NYC French Fries

What’s your favorite snack? French Fries? I knew it. Across the board, this hot little item satisfies everyone’s pallet. So simple, so yummy, salty, hot. You pick your toppings, or none at all. It’s vegan, and if done correctly, it’s not necessarily bad for you. Of course New York City will always be the land of endless possibilities and options, so finding your favorite serving of fries might be quite the task. Let’s just stick with some of the better options, and I am here to tell you where you can indulge on this salty little snack.

Houseman

What a treat. Houseman’s fries are Idaho Russett potatoes, which are soaked for 24 hours, then boiled in water with an added splash of vinegar, then fried twice. Added kosher salt adds to the perfection. There’s not one floppy French fry on the plate. Try not to eat them all in one sitting. Good luck. They’re the luxury in the Fries department.

Lafayette Grand Café

In the spring and summer, Lafayette Grand Cafe is literally one of my favorite places in New York City. Sitting in the outside dining area in the warm weather, sipping on a glass of wine, munching on their fries, is literally one of the most Zen things to do. The fries are shoestring style, with added salt and herbs. It (obviously) comes with ketchup, but also with house made mayonnaise, which was absolutely delicious. Treat yourself.

Balthazar

Balthazar is a true staple of New York City, I feel everyone has to go at some point. I frequently dine alone, it’s a little hard to keep up with me, so sometimes it’s a solo dinner for me. I went here for lunch by myself, and lo and behold, single diners at this restaurant are given a complimentary glass of champagne! How magnificent. Instant mood changer. The fries? Top notch. Siimple Russett potatoes fried in peanut oil , served with ketchup and a remoulade, will make your day.

Bel-Fries

Bel-Fries is all about the sauces. These Belgian fries are crispy, salty and hot, but the true star here is the assortment of sauces and dips. Black Truffle Mayo, Frite Sauce, Queso, Roasted Garlic Aioli, Sriracha Mayo, Peanut Satay, Curry Mango, Honey Mustard, Samurai Sauce, Kewpie Mayo and more are making these fries special and one of a kind. I chose the Kewpie Mayo, and loved every bite.

Spudz

Spudz has a couple of locations here in the city, and I visited the Harlem location. It’s a plain and simple place, spacious, and bar top seating by the window, perfect for people watching. The fries are good, regular, hot. The star here are the toppings. It’s a whole meal. Get your fork ready. Get one of the combos. I got myself a Frito Loco with jalapeños, cheese sauce, roasted corn, black bean salsa and more fried jalapeños. So, so delicious. There are plenty of variations, some with fried chicken, some more of a dessert situation, some with fried shrimp. This spot is really awesome.
