Do you love tater tots? Lord knows I do! Every once in a while you gotta step up from the French fries, and bake or fry up a good old batch of tots! By no means are they a delicacy, but most people enjoy them thoroughly. I went on a hunt here in NYC, trying to find spots that serve them with a bit of a punch, and I was not disappointed. Following are a few examples of them, and I think you would love them!
Bar Bacon
I stumbled onto this place while researching Bloody Marys, and I had this delicious bar snack that day. These Loaded Tater Tots are loaded with cheddar, bacon, sour cream and chives. Served individually in a small cast iron pan, they’re perfect and delicious for a lunch break or a snack while chugging a few beers!

Dan and John’s
This place downtown on First Avenue serves some delicious wings! But you better believe they have more good stuff than that. While their wings are probably some of my favorite in the city, do have some their tater tots when visiting. Their idea of Loaded Tater Tots involves hot sauce, Bleu Cheese Fondu, Bleu Cheese crumbles and celery. They are something you’ve never tasted, and it will have you going back for more!

West 3rd Commons
This roomy bar downtown has made a whole menu section of Tater Tots. You can order them with Nacho toppings, Cajun Spiced, or regular, but my favorite is Tot-tine which comes with mozzarella and gravy. You then add your additional toppings like steak, a fried egg, chicken or chorizo, but I went with the pulled pork, and oh my, what a treat! It hit every spot, just so scrumptious. Go get it.

Big Daddy’s
Big Daddy’s in the Flatiron District has been around forever, and its 50’s Diner look, fun atmosphere and awesomely creative menu have made this a very popular spot. This place also has a lengthy Tater Tots menu section, of which you an choose between items like Animal House (chili and cheese sauce), Where The Buffalo Roam (with buffalo chicken tenders and blue cheese dressing), or Good Time Tots (regular or sweet potato). My favorite were the Breakfast Tots with American cheese, bacon jam, a runny egg and a drizzle of hot sauce. It’s so, so good!

Crif Dogs
If you are not familiar with this spot, do get acquainted! This “Hole in a Wall” type of place on St. Mark’s Place serves hot dogs extraordinaire, fries and tater tots with toppings you can only dream of. It’s very inexpensive, chuck full of attitude, and Lower East Side charm for days. Order at the counter, have a seat on a bench and eat off the metal tables. Or take it to go. My favorite Tater Tot menu item here is the Tot-Chos, which are made with Pico de Gallo, jalapeños, sour cream, and chili cheese. Lord have mercy. It’s to die for.
