Long Burger

What’s Long Burger? It’s a regular burger, but instead of making a round patty, it is shaped in a long shape to fit a Hot Dog bun, or a sandwich bun. So technically you can use this recipe to make one delicious burger, but I know you’re not that boring. Other than the shape of the meat, this is not an overwhelmingly different burger, but it is super delicious, and I’m sure you’re going to make it many times in the future…

What you’ll need:

  • 1 1/4 pound of ground beef
  • 8 strips of thick bacon
  • 1 medium onion, julienned
  • canola or peanut oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Maple Syrup
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 hot dog buns or long sandwich rolls

Heat the oil in a skillet. Add the onion and salt, and sauté at least 3 minutes. You can keep them sautéed, or cook them longer until they’re crisp, you decide! (I prefer them crispy). Remove the onions and set aside.

In the same skillet fry the bacon in a skillet until nice and crisp (remove some of the oil if necessary). Place on a paper towel lined plate and lightly brush with maple syrup.

Shape the ground beef into four burgers. Shape them long to fit a hot dog bun or a long roll. Season them with salt and pepper. Add them to the same skillet (again remove some of the oil if necessary).

Assemble the burger: burger, cheddar cheese, onions, bacon. Place on a lightly toasted hot dog bun or long roll (like a club roll). May I say you’re welcome? It’s super delicious! Serve with fries or salad.

Hello there, fellow foodies! My name is Erica, I was born and raised in Germany, and moved to the US, New York City to be exact, in July of 1987. I have worked most of my time here in the Big Apple as a bartender, but my true love is food. I cook just about every day, I search for good food everywhere, and pretty much always find it. I don't consider myself a food critic, I don't have the culinary background for that kind of expertise. I do however know good food, good chefs and good restaurants. I report back about my culinary adventures, and I choose to leave out my unsatisfactory experiences. We have enough negativity in our daily lives, I don't want to add to that. All the recipes in my FROM MY KITCHEN and DOTW blogs are cooked and prepared by me. All pictures are taken by me. I don't always eat everything you see in my pictures, but you bet your buns, I do try everything. Last but not least, you should know that I am a huge Top Chef fan. I have never missed an episode of the Bravo TV show. I have at this point visited almost 20 restaurants run by Top Chef contestants, and I'm continuously impressed by their skill, drive and passion. So I will continue to seek them out, and I hope you join me in my journey!
