Amazing Turkey Burger

I go out to eat a lot, and I mean a LOT, and even though the restaurants I frequent serve fresh and usually healthy food, I do have to watch what I eat and cook. I love a good turkey burger, but sometimes they come out a little dry and boring. Below you find a recipe for a healthy, yummy, juicy turkey burger that you will keep on your go-to-list!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 pound of ground turkey
  • 8 oz portobello mushrooms
  • 1/2 small red onion
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 8 oz Manchego cheese (cheddar if you can’t find it)
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tbsp cream cheese
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns

Place the mushrooms and red onion in a food processor or blender and chop finely. Combine mixture with the ground turkey, Worcestershire sauce, 1. tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp salt and a pinch of black pepper. Make four patties out of the mixture  and pan fry for about 5 minutes on each side over medium heat.

Cut the cheese into small pieces and chop it in the food processor or blender with the cream cheese and mustard. Peel and slice the avocado. Toast the burger buns and assemble the burger. To add the cheese on top of the turkey patty, microwave the cheese mix on 50% power for 1 minute to make it gooey (or however you want to heat it). Top off with the avocado and enjoy!

Bon Appétit!

Hello there, fellow foodies! My name is Erica, I was born and raised in Germany, and moved to the US, New York City to be exact, in July of 1987. I have worked most of my time here in the Big Apple as a bartender, but my true love is food. I cook just about every day, I search for good food everywhere, and pretty much always find it. I don't consider myself a food critic, I don't have the culinary background for that kind of expertise. I do however know good food, good chefs and good restaurants. I report back about my culinary adventures, and I choose to leave out my unsatisfactory experiences. We have enough negativity in our daily lives, I don't want to add to that. All the recipes in my FROM MY KITCHEN and DOTW blogs are cooked and prepared by me. All pictures are taken by me. I don't always eat everything you see in my pictures, but you bet your buns, I do try everything. Last but not least, you should know that I am a huge Top Chef fan. I have never missed an episode of the Bravo TV show. I have at this point visited almost 20 restaurants run by Top Chef contestants, and I'm continuously impressed by their skill, drive and passion. So I will continue to seek them out, and I hope you join me in my journey!
