Pizza in New York City is deemed the best in the nation. For good reason. Even though I think over time, some of the other states have stepped their game up, but honestly, nothing comes close to your beloved pizza. Which one is the best? Not in my wildest dreams would I ever think that anyone can decide that. Not only are tastes different, but who can taste all the pizza in this great city?? That’s physically impossible. So. I’m just going to tell you which ones are some of my favorites. And in no particular order. All of the below listed pizzas and pizza shops are top notch in my opinion, and 100% worth a visit.
Scarr’s Pizza
Scarr’s Pizza is located on Orchard Street on the Lower Eastside. I’ve been hearing good things about this Pizza Shop, so of course I had to go try. There is a steady stream of pizza lovers, and if you want a whole pie, it’s gonna take a little while. It’ll be made fresh on the spot. Worth the wait without question. My favorite slice here? The Hot Boi. It’s made with Beef Pepperoni, thinly sliced jalapeños, then drizzled with Mike’s Extra Hot Honey. Outrageously good.

Stretch Pizza
Stretch Pizza is located on Park Avenue South. Chef and owner Wylie Dufresne has been a household name in my world for a long time. When I found out he started a new pizza adventure (together with partner Gadi Peleg), I knew I had to get a pie at my earliest convenience. No disappointment here. I ordered a simple pepperoni pie, and it was all that. Fresh ingredients, perfect balance of pepperoni, tomato sauce, mozzarella and parmesan. Loved it.
Ribalta Pizza
Ribalta is located on E 12th Street downtown. This is more of an Italian restaurant, as opposed to a pizza shop. However, their pizza come highly recommended by people in the know, so I took their advice, and ordered a Quattro Formaggi pie with imported for de latte (top tier mozzarella), provolone, gorgonzola, and Parmigiano Reggiano. Super delicious. Like butter, so smooth. Great pie.
Don Antonio
Don Antonio is located on W 50th Street. This place is known for their Neapolitan pies. Clearly, that’s what I needed to order then. Simple, delicious, flavorful, fresh. 100% a great pie. Go get one.
Upside Pizza
Upside Pizza is located on 598 8th Avenue. This place has lots of (delicious) pies that are off the beaten path. I went for the Upside Don pie, which is a Sicilian pie made with homemade sauce that tops whole milk mozzarella, homemade breadcrumbs, Parmiginano-Reggiano and pepperoni. The dough is a 72-hour naturally fermented sourdough. This was outrageously delicious.
