Brooklyn Eats

Talde

The Day after Mothers Day I was lucky enough to have my daughter take me out to dinner for my special day. She let me pick the restaurant, and I decided on a place in Brooklyn that’s been on my list for quite a while. Talde is yet another eatery owned by one of the talented Top Chef contestants. Dale was on Season 4 and made it to the 11th round. He serves Pan-Asian food in this beautiful spot. I had never been to a “Top Chef” restaurant I didn’t love, and this one was no exception.
Talde’s wings have been named “Best Wings in the US”, so we definitely had to share an order of them, together with an some of the delicious and different Pretzel Pork & Chive Dumplings with spicy mustard.
The Kung Pao Chicken Wings were spicy and topped with peanuts, served with a side of house-made. Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, they were simply amazing. The Lobster Tom Kha was next, tasty with a spicy broth, this was my daughter’s favorite. This was followed by the Chow Fun, which was made with a braised pork shank and pickled mustard greens. I absolutely loved this dish, I couldn’t get enough. All this yumminess was accompanied by their Everything Roti bread.
We shared our dessert, if for no other reason that it was huge! It was called Halo Halo, and the ingredients were as followed: shaved ice, consensed milk, strawberries, pineapples, blueberries, coconut, coconut jellies, tapioca pearls, topped off with Captain Crunch cereal. We could barely finish it, because we were so full from all that food, but it was amazingly different, and I am craving it as I am writing this….

Alma

After meeting an old friend in Queens I ventured off to Downtown Brooklyn in search of some food. After finding a few little places, I met up with my daughter Sasha, who is my fellow foodie, and we decided on a Mexican spot named Alma in the Waterfront District near Cobble Stone in Brooklyn.
Alma is a multiple story restaurant with a rooftop floor that has a stunning view of Downtown Manhattan. It was a warm and breezy day, and we were so lucky to be seated in the rooftop area. I was extremely happy sipping on a Margharita while enjoying the amazing view and having a good chat with my daughter. Of course we had to start off the dinner with some chips and guacamole that put us in the perfect kind of mood. Next was Queso Fundido, consisting of melted of Oaxacan cheese, baked with chorizo, black beans, jalapeños and onions, served with corn tortillas. Perfect.
One of our main dishes were (of course) Fish tacos, which were made with fried haddock, garlic and a tomato chipotle sauce. They were light and delicious! The other entree we chose were Short Rib Enchiladas with smoked gouda and roasted ranchero sauce. I did a little chair dance because they were so good! I liked everything about this restaurant….

Hill Country Chicken

Knowing I had a long day ahead of me roaming around Brooklyn, I found myself a little chicken spot to tank up on some energy (aka fried chicken).
This place is large and colorful with unusually friendly service. I chose a breast and a wing with some fries and a roasted corn salad. I also noticed some very adorable little pies that found their way into my bag to be taste tested at a later time.
Even though this was a fried meal, it was not too heavy, and the seasoning was perfect. The salad was fresh and tasty. When I finally did taste the little pies, they were very nice. The flavors I chose were Bourbon Pecan, Butter Creme, Banana Creme, and Apple Strudel. Great place!

I’m grateful to have had a great Mothers Day (my son also took me out to eat, you’ll here about that next week). There is nothing that I am more grateful for than my children! And a little bit for Brooklyn…..

Until next time!
